Photography and Filming

The nature of the work conducted at NAWS China Lake by our tenant commands means that policies regarding photography and filming must be strictly enforced.

Personal/Visitors
Personal photographs are only allowed to be taken on the Main Side of the installation and only within specific areas, including the military housing/lodging areas, inside the U.S. Naval Museum of Armament and Technology, inside the Paradise Community Center, at Solar Park and at the sports fields. Please contact the NAWS Public Affairs Office, (760) 939-1683 or naws_chlk_pao.fct@navy.mil, if there is a specific area in which you would like to take photos, but are unsure of permissions.

Commercial
Commercial photographers, videographers and production companies that wish to capture some of the remarkable work, aircraft and people at NAWS China Lake must receive special permission. Please contact the NAWS Public Affairs Office, (760) 939-1683 or e-mail to http://naws_chlk_pao.fct@navy.mil, to discuss your project.

Employees
Employees at NAWS China Lake who wish to photograph or film something must be wearing a badge that designates they have permission to take photographs and video. Only those employees that will be taking photos or filming for a large percentage of their duties may request a “P” for their permanent badge. Each request is thoroughly evaluated based on the employee's actual necessity. Employees that need to take photos on a case-by-case basis will need to receive permission from the area in which they wish to take photos and request a temporary SAAP badge.

Employees are not allowed to use photography-enabled cellular phones to take photographs at any time while onboard the installation.
