Oil Switch Spill
IRP Site 30 entails an Oil Switch Spill in the far southwest corner of former building, approximately 2,000 feet southwest of the base main gate. The area is paved and has been used to store oil-containing items in the past. Approximately six switches, three of which were labeled as containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and several transformers were stored in the area awaiting disposal. Although it is unknown whether the spilled oil contained PCBs, potentially contaminated asphalt was removed and disposed of in 1984. The 1990 Addendum to the Preliminary Assessment recommended no further action, as did the Environmental Protection Agency. However the Department of Health Services recommended further work. A Site Inspection is currently being conducted at the site.
