Commanding Officer, Naval Base Guam

Captain Grimes is a 1990 graduate of the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He has also earned a Masters of Arts degree in Business Administration from Chaminade University of Honolulu and has completed all requirements for designation as a Joint Service Officer.

Captain Grimes' sea assignments include tours aboard USS ALBANY (SSN 753) in Norfolk, VA as a Junior Officer, USS SAN JUAN (SSN 751) in Groton, CT and Portsmouth, NH as Combat Systems Officer, USS TENNESSEE (SSBN 734) (GOLD) and USS MARYLAND (SSBN 738) (GOLD) in Kings Bay, GA as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer, respectively.  During these tours he completed 4 deployments to locations including the North Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Caribbean Sea; 3 extended maintenance periods, and 7 Strategic Deterrent Patrols. While in command his ship was awarded two consecutive Submarine Squadron TWENTY Battle Efficiency "Excellence" awards and was the U. S. Strategic Command's Omaha Trophy award winner as the best Strategic Missile Submarine in 2009.

Captain Grimes' shore assignments include Command Center Watch Officer and Shore Targeting Terminal Officer on the staff of Commander, Submarine Force Pacific in Pearl Harbor, HI; Submarine Department Head Detailer at Navy Personnel Command in Millington, TN; Special Assistant to Commander, U.S. Joint Forces Command and NATO's Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk, VA; Tactical Readiness Evaluation Team Senior Member on the staff of Commander, Submarine Force Atlantic in Norfolk, VA; Deputy for Mission Readiness on the staff of Commander, Submarine Squadron FIFTEEN in Guam; and Commander, Submarine Squadron FIFTEEN in Guam.

Captain Grimes' previous assignment was Chief of Staff, Joint Region Marianas in Guam.

Captain Grimes' personal awards include the 2010 James B. Stockdale Award for Inspirational Leadership for the Atlantic Fleet, Legion of Merit ( four awards), Defense Meritorious Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps
Commendation Medal (six awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards).
