Commander Jason A. Wilkerson is a 1999 graduate of Campbell University, Buies Creek, N.C., and was commissioned in 2000 after completing Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Fla. Upon commissioning, he attended the Surface Warfare Division Officer Course in Newport, R.I. Commander Wilkerson’s first division officer tour was aboard USS ESTOCIN (FFG 15) as the Main Propulsion Assistant. His second division officer tour was aboard USS LEYTE GULF (CG 55) as the Assistant Weapons Officer and Force Protection Officer.

Following his division officer tours in 2003, Commander Wilkerson was assigned to Amphibious Group TWO as Flag Lieutenant. He then served at the Surface Warfare Officer School from 2005-2008 as an instructor in the Division Officer course. While in Newport, he earned a Masters of Arts degree in International Relations from Salve Regina University.

After attending Department Head School, Commander Wilkerson was assigned as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer aboard USS GETTYSBURG (CG 64) from 2008-2011 where he deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, Operation NEW DAWN and to the Horn of Africa in support of counter-piracy operations. Following his department head tours, Commander Wilkerson went on to serve as Combatant Command Integration lead and Executive Assistant to the Director at the Missile Defense Agency from 2012-2013. He then served a tour on the Joint Staff as an action officer in Joint Operations Directorate Pacific and Africa. He also spent time as the Battle Watch Captain in the National Joint Intelligence and Operations Center and National Military Command Center. Commander Wilkerson’s next at-sea assignment in late 2014 was as the Auxiliaries Officer aboard USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74).

His most recent assignment was at the Naval War College where he attended the College of Naval Warfare and obtained a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies and JPME Phase II. He reported as Executive Officer Naval Base Guam in May 2017. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Defense Achievement Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards) as well as various campaign and unit awards.
