How Will the New TRICARE DENTAL PROGRAM Contract Affect Me?

TRICARE Management Activity (TMA) has selected Metropolitan Life as the new insurance provider for the TRICARE Dental Program for family members. The current insurance provider, United Concordia, will continue to process all claims until 30 April 2012. Coverage under Metropolitan Life will begin on 1 May 2012. There should be no interruption of services for family members.

Question: Will there be premium or benefit changes?

Answer: The new contract features new benefits and enhancements including:

  • An increase in the annual maximum from $1,200 to $1,300 per enrollee.
  • An increase in the lifetime orthodontic maximum from $1,500 to $1,750.
  • Coverage of posterior resin (tooth colored/white) fillings.
  • An additional $1,200 maximum per year for services related to accidents or injuries.
  • No cost shares for some periodontal services for patients with diabetes.
  • Coverage of an additional (3rd) cleaning for women during pregnancy.
  • First year premiums at or below current rates.

Question: Will I have to change my Dentist?

Answer: Metropolitan Life is currently contacting Dentists on Guam to become part of the network and it is anticipated that most of the current Dentists will accept the new contractor, but in some cases you may have to change dentists if you want to receive the benefits of seeing a network dental provider. Enrollees may seek care from any dentist, however out-of-pocket costs can be higher when care is delivered by a non-network dentist.

Question: Will I have to get a new enrollment card?

Answer: Family members that are currently enrolled in the TRICARE Dental Program should be receiving a welcome packet and new enrollment cards in late March or early April.

Question: Where I can find additional information on the TRICARE Dental Program with Metropolitan Life?

Answer: You may find additional information at http://www.metlife.com/tricare/index.html
