Guam is home to numerous Navy commands supporting the fleet in this part of the world. Among them are:
SUBMARINE SQUADRON 15 Submarine Squadron 15's mission is to prepare assigned and visiting units for forward-deployed operations in the Western Pacific. It maintains the highest level of readiness to permit surge operations when called upon to respond to emergent theater commander tasking in support of the nation's Maritime Strategy efforts.There are currently four forward-deployed Los Angeles-class attack submarines -- USS Key West (SSN 772), USS Topeka (SSN 754), USS Oklahoma City (SSN 723), USS Asheville (SSN 758). Submarine Squadron 15 provides outstanding maintenance, administrative and logistics support to numerous forward-deployed or deploying submarines in Guam.
USS FRANK CABLE (AS-40) USS Frank Cable is the second Emory S. Land-class submarine tender built for the Navy. The ship was designed as a Submarine tender of the Los Angeles-class submarines and conducts maintenance and support of submarines and surface vessels deployed in the U.S. 5th and U.S. 7th Fleet areas of responsibility. She was christened in 1978 and in the mid-90s was refitted to replace the USS Holland (AS-32) in the Western Pacific as Commander Seventh Fleet's mobile repair and support platform. Submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS-39) arrived on Guam from Diego Garcia in November 2011 to replace the Frank Cable while she undergoes scheduled Regular Overhaul and Dry Docking in Portland, Ore.
HELICOPTER SEA COMBAT SQUADRON TWO FIVE Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO FIVE (HSC-25) is the Navy’s only forward deployed MH-60S expeditionary squadron. As a part of Helicopter Sea Combat Wing Pacific (HSCWINGPAC), it provides an armed helicopter capability for US SEVENTH and FIFTH FLEETS as well as detachments to various commands covering a diverse mission set. Flying the MH-60S, HSC-25 supports permanently assigned detachments to the USS ESSEX home ported in Sasebo, Japan, and Commander Task Force 73. These detachments perform logistics, search and rescue, and humanitarian assistance for US SEVENTH FLEET. In addition, approximately half of all deployed Island Knights are assigned to the 2515th Naval Air Ambulance Detachment in Basrah, Iraq, for Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. HSC-25 is proud to be part of Andersen Air Force Base and is the Navy’s only squadron that maintains a 24-hour search and rescue and medical evacuation alert posture, directly supporting the U.S. Coast Guard, Sector Guam and Joint Region Marianas.
MILITARY SEALIFT COMMAND SHIP SUPPORT UNIT GUAM Military Sealift Command Ship Support Unit Guam, located at the "Crossroads of the Pacific," provides operational, engineering, logistics, contracting, medical and administrative support to all Military Sealift Command ships operating in the Western Pacific. In addition to supporting Military Sealift Fleet Support Command's execution of type commander responsibilities for MSC's government-owned, government-operated ships, MSC SSU Guam provides regional support to MSC's special mission and strategic sealift ships and prepositioning ships such as forward-deployed Maritime Prepositioning Ship Squadron Three.
EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL MOBILE UNIT FIVE On order, EODMU FIVE deploys and employs tailored EOD units to locate, identify, render safe and remove conventional chemical, biological, nuclear, radiological, and improvised explosive hazards in order to enable access for joint,naval, and special operations forces within the Western Pacific theater of Operations and elsewhere, when directed. Additionally, EODMU FIVE manages the current and future readiness, resources, manpower, training, and equipment for the Sailors assigned to EODMU FIVE so that they may safely operate in all projected environments.
NAVY MUNITIONS COMMAND UNIT EAST ASIA DIVISION GUAM NMC EAD Guam is the Navy’s largest and most capable overseas mine shop. Our job is to store, maintain, assemble, and deliver underwater mines in response to tasking from Unified Theater Commanders. We directly support Commander SEVENTH FLEET aircraft and submarines; however, the primary mine delivery platforms that we support are Air Force strategic bombers flying missions out of Andersen Air Force Base located here on Guam.
NAVAL AIRBORNE WEAPONS MAINTENANCE UNIT NAWMU 1 is a munitions maintenance activity and combat support unit manned and operated to conduct intermediate and selected depot level maintenance. The command tests and repairs air and select surface-launched missiles and guided weapons and components in support of the U.S. Navy worldwide.
COASTAL RIVERINE GROUP ONE (CRG-1), DETACHMENT GUAM CRG-1 provides rapidly deployable forces to conduct or support anti-terrorism and force protection missions. CRG-1 promotes the Maritime Strategy by providing security for American citizens, through the application of sea power, and by strengthening partnerships with allied nations.
NAVAL COMMUNICATIONS STATON, GUAM The mission of the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station [NCTS] is to provide continuous global and universal communications services to fleet units, shore activities, and joint forces. Base level communications include all facilities and services required to support electromagnetic dissemination, transmission or reception of voice, data, video, integrated telecommunications within the confines of a post, camp, station, base, installation, headquarters, or metropolitan area to include local interconnect trunks to the first serving commercial central office or military long-haul or tactical gateway.
