ASAN, Guam (April 20, 2018) – The Joint Region Marianas (JRM) Family Readiness Program hosted a joint seminar for personnel and organizations who provide support to families of fallen heroes at the Top O’ the Mar in Asan April 16-18.
The seminar gave service providers from Navy Gold Star; Air Force Family Forever; Survivor Outreach Coordinators; Airman and Family Readiness; and Fleet and Family Support Center necessary knowledge and skills to provide quality service and assist with building and sustaining resiliency and recovery for Gold Star families.
“We honor and respect the loved ones of our fallen heroes, our Gold Star families,” said JRM Commander Rear Adm. Shoshana Chatfield. “This training provides a wealth of information our service providers can keep in their toolbox to help the families of these brave men and women.”
She commended the attendees saying, “The work you do day in and day out is essential to let these families know that though their loved one is no longer here, the military still stands by them.”
During the training, participants focused on services available to Gold Star family members including medical and dental benefits, and the bereavement process.
“Every effort was made to offer a realistic professional development experience so the training participants can better apply what they learned upon return to their Installation,” said Marcia Gladney, JRM Family Readiness Program director. “Providing long-term support to survivors requires partnerships and team relationships for successful service delivery. The team concepts learned throughout the training can be applied across a broad spectrum of family support related programs.”
