ASAN, Guam (Oct. 12, 2018) – Joint Region Marianas and U.S. Naval Base Guam will participate in the Great Guam ShakeOut and a tsunami drill Oct. 18.
JRM and NBG in conjunction with Guam Homeland Security will take part in the world’s largest earthquake drill at 10:18 a.m. During the drill, personnel will practice the stop, cover and hold-on procedure for one minute wherever they are located.
During the tsunami drill, waterfront units and activities at NBG will evacuate to designated tsunami assembly areas using designated routes. Participating units will also be directed to report accountability via computer or mobile device to the Navy Family Accountability and Assessment System (NFAAS) website at https://navyfamily.navy.mil.
The drills provide an opportunity for NBG emergency management to exercise its operational lines of communication, review response procedures, and promote preparedness. Regular exercising of response plans to high impact events is critical to remain ready for an emergency.
There are currently no planned road closures and the force protection condition (FPCON) status will not change throughout the duration of the drills, which will be held concurrently.
As part of the exercise, the NBG Giant Voice (GV) system will be activated, and residents in surrounding areas of the GV speakers will hear exercise announcements throughout the day.
