Military to Conduct Training in Outer Apra Harbor, Farallon de Medinilla, Warning Area 13, Dandan, Radio Barrigada, South Finegayan, Open Ocean, Warning Area 517 & Agat Bay

ASAN, Guam (March 6, 2020) – U.S. Marines will hold small boat exercises in outer Apra Harbor on the following dates and times:

·         March 9-10 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

·         March 11 from 8 a.m. to noon

The U.S. Navy will conduct exercises at the island of Farallon de Medinilla and in Warning Area 13 on the following dates and times:

·         March 9-10 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

·         March 11-13 from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Mariners are advised to remain clear 12 nautical miles from Farallon de Medinilla and Warning Area 13 and to monitor the U.S. Coast Guard broadcast Notice to Mariners for advisories.

The Navy will hold small boat exercises in outer Apra Harbor on March 9-13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The general public, fishermen, and marine tour operators should not be alarmed if they see or hear increased activity associated with the training.

Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 (HSC-25) will conduct training exercises at Dandan-Malojloj, Inarajan; Radio Barrigada, Barrigada and South Finegayan, Dededo on the following dates and times:

·         March 9-11 from noon-11:55 p.m.

·         March 12 from 2-11:55 p.m.

HSC-25 will also hold exercises in outer Apra Harbor on the following dates and times:

·         March 9 from 3-11:55 p.m.

·         March 11 from noon-11:55 p.m.

·         March 12 from 3:30-11:55 p.m.

HSC-25 will conduct open ocean training March 9-10 from 3p.m. to 1:30 a.m. at the following coordinates: 13˚26''N/145˚08''E, 13˚42''N/144˚36''E.

Mariners are advised to monitor the U.S. Coast Guard broadcast Notice to Mariners for advisories.

U.S. Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 5 (EODMU-5) will conduct routine underwater detonation training March 10-11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following coordinates: 13˚27.7''N/144˚38.5''E in outer Apra Harbor.

EODMU-5 will detonate a total of two 5-pound explosives at the designated UNDET location on a sandy area of the sea floor.

For the safety of the public and participants involved, the U.S. Coast Guard will establish safety zones to restrict access in the vicinity of the training area.

EODMU-5 performs routine underwater detonation training to develop the skills needed to be ready to rapidly respond to operational missions and unexploded ordnance support in Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

The Navy will hold training at Warning Area 517 March 10 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Mariners are advised to monitor the U.S. Coast Guard broadcast Notice to Mariners for advisories.

HSC-25 will conduct training exercises in Agat Bay, open ocean and outer Apra Harbor March 10 from 1-11:55p.m.

During these trainings the general public, fishermen, and marine tour operators are advised to monitor the U.S. Coast Guard broadcast Notice to Mariners for advisories.

The Navy will hold training at Warning Area 517 March 11 from 1-7 p.m.

Mariners are advised to remain clear 12 nautical miles from Farallon de Medinilla and Warning Area 13 and to monitor the U.S. Coast Guard broadcast Notice to Mariners for advisories.

These trainings support readiness and are critical to developing the skills needed to respond to operational missions throughout the region to ensure a stable, free, and open Indo-Pacific.
