A native of San Diego, CA, Commander Ronel Reyes joined the Navy in 1994 and attended the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, RI. He is a 1999 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and earned his Master of Science in Systems Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2006.
For his initial sea assignment, CDR Reyes was aboard USS NASSAU (LHA 4) where he served as Combat Information Center Officer and Assistant Damage Control Assistant from June 2001 to June 2004. During his tour he deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM.
From February 2007 to September 2008, he served as Operations Officer in USS REUBEN JAMES (FFG 57) deploying to the Western Pacific in support of JTF-515 and Joint Special Operations Task Force – Philippines (JSOTF-P) operations and various multination exercises to include Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2008. In October 2008, he reported to Destroyer Squadron THREE ONE (CDS 31) as the Combat Systems Officer where he did a Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) deployment. He was in USS PELELIU (LHA 5) from October 2013 to March 2015 where he served as Damage Control Assistant and deployed to the Western Pacific in support of Forward Deployed Naval Force Japan operations.
Ashore, CDR Reyes served as Project Officer and Scenario Development Lead at the NATO Allied Command Transformation Joint Warfare Centre in Stavanger, Norway from April 2010 to May 2013. He completed his latest assignment in the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard as Executive Officer from April 2015 to April 2016.
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, and various campaign and unit awards.
