VX-1 changes command Thursday


NAVAL AIR STATION PATUXENT RIVER, Md. – Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 1 is holding a change of command ceremony from 2-3 p.m. March 12 in the squadron’s hangar, Hangar 305.


Navy Capt. Clayton Michaels is assuming command from Navy Capt. Wade Turvold during the event.


Turvold, who has been the squadron’s commanding officer since September 2013, is headed to the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Penn., to be an instructor. Michaels has been the squadron’s executive officer since September 2013.


This event is open to those with base access only.

The event features Vice Adm. David Dunaway, commander of Naval Air Systems Command and TPS Class of 1996, as the guest speaker, followed by a reception.

Air station to participate annual Solid Curtain/Citadel Shield training


 


NAVAL AIR STATION PATUXENT RIVER, Md. – NAS Patuxent River starts the annual Solid Curtain/Citadel Shield force protection training Monday, Feb. 3. The two-week training runs through Friday, Feb. 14, 2015. 


Solid Curtain/Citadel Shield is an annual Navywide exercise designed to enhance the training and readiness of Navy Security Forces.  Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield is not in response to any specific threat, but is a regularly scheduled exercise. 


Measures have been taken to minimize disruptions to normal base operations at NAS Pax River, but there may be times when the exercise will cause increased traffic around the installation or delays in base access. Area residents may also see increased security activity associated with the exercise.
