Dental Services
Dental Appointments: 301-342-1407
After Hours: 301-342-1506

The dental clinic is a modern, well-equipped facility located within the Naval health clinic. Military personnel are provided general dentistry, although some specialty care may require referrals to other military or civilian clinics. Routine examinations, annual deployment health screenings, active-duty sick call services and records check-in/check-out are available.

Due to current military dental readiness and health requirements, family members and retirees are not routinely seen. Retired service members are seen for emergency treatment only. Family members and retirees are encouraged to use their respective TRICARE dental plan for their dental health needs. Exams and emergencies do not require an appointment; however, appointments are available upon request.

Customer Relations

Customer Relations Officer: 301-995-4980 Located off the Quarter Deck at Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River.

The Naval health clinic's goal is to provide all beneficiaries with excellent customer service.

Each department has a Customer Service Representative. Please do not hesitate to contact the departmental Customer Service Representative or the command Customer Relations Officer to provide feedback to how we can improve our services.

Emergency and Urgent Care

Urgent care services are medically necessary services which are required for illness or injury that would not result in further disability or death if not treated immediately, but require professional attention and have the potential to develop such a threat if treatment is delayed longer than 24 hours.

During clinic hours, call 301-342-1506 to speak to a nurse who will evaluate symptoms. If same-day care is needed, the caller will be offered an acute appointment at the clinic. If no appointment is available, a referral may be entered authorizing a visit to a local urgent care center. Patients must call the clinic to check for appointment availability during clinic hours. Failure to call for an appointment during clinic hours and seeking urgent care at a civilian facility may result in coverage under the point of service option for which you will be responsible for payment.

After normal clinic hours and on weekends, patients requiring medical care are authorized to seek urgent care in the civilian network after contacting the TRICARE Nurse Advice Line. Patients who obtain urgent care before getting an approval during times of clinic closure or while traveling, should call the clinic within three business days to request a referral for their urgent care visit. Failure to obtain a referral from a Naval Health Clinic Primary Care Manager (PCM) within three business days will cause their care to be covered under the point of service option and you will be responsible for payment.

If you require urgent care while traveling, you must coordinate the care with your PCM and/or the TRICARE North Region contractor (Health Net) before receiving care. If you cannot reach your PCM, call 1-877-TRICARE to notify them of your need for urgent care. Carry a TRICARE pocket card or the Traveling with Prime info sheet with you when traveling for quick access to important phone numbers.

TRICARE and DEERS

Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River no longer has an on-site TRICARE Service Center (TSC). Upon arrival at NAS Pax River, all active duty personnel must enroll in TRICARE North. This can be done by calling 877-TRICARE or by loggin on to TRICARE's Web Enrollment page.

It is critical that DEERS information is kept up-to-date. This is the responsibility of the military sponsor and can be done at the PSD office.
