Bill Meekins is a native of Mitchell, South Dakota where he graduated from high school and enlisted in the Navy in 1975.
Upon completion of initial training, he attended both Yeoman and Personnelman Class “A” Schools. Duty assignments included Camp David, Maryland, USS MOUNT WHITNEY (LCC-20), Navy Military Personnel Command, Washington, DC, White House Staff Mess, Washington, DC and Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Mr. Meekins was commissioned a U.S. Navy Chief Warrant Officer in January 1995. Duty assignments included Director, Communications Security Material System, Washington, DC, Officer in Charge, Personnel Support Activity Detachment, Souda Bay, Crete, two tours at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, and USS ARCTIC (AOE-8). During his tour on ARCTIC he was designated a Surface Warfare Officer. He also served two tours as Personnel Officer aboard USNS COMFORT (TAH-20). Mr. Meekins retired from active duty in November 2005 after over 30 years of service.
Mr. Meekins entered Civil Service in March 2006 as the Contingency, Manpower and Security Officer for Navy Medicine, National Capital Area and later became the Director of Human Resources (M-1). In August 2009, Mr. Meekins was detailed to assist in the standing up of Naval Support Activity Bethesda and served as Deputy Director and Director of Total Force Manpower. In November 2011, he assumed his current position as Executive Director, Naval Support Activity Bethesda.
