The American Red Cross has a long history of providing service to members of America’s military and their families during conflicts, peacekeeping and humanitarian operations. In the mid 1800’s Clara Barton risked her life on the battlefields to tend to fallen soldiers, nurse the wounded, write letters from wounded soldiers to their families and help keep the morale of the troops high. Since that time, the American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces has been committed to continuing the vision through emergency communications and quality of life services for military personnel and their families. In military treatment facilities around the world, Red Cross volunteers supplement and assist with programs relating to health, welfare and morale
