Master Chief Craycraft is a native of Lexington, KY who enlisted in the United States Navy November 1989. He completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL and Basic Enlisted Submarine School (BESS), Groton, CT.
Master Chief Craycraft reported to USS GEORGIA (SSBN 729) (BLUE) homeported in Bangor, WA in March 1990, as a member of Deck Division as a non-designated Seaman. Here he qualified in submarines January 29, 1991 and he completed Trident Level 1 and 2 Auxiliary package and gained the Machinist’s Mate rating as an MMFN. Here he was promoted to Third Class Petty Officer and later Second Class Petty Officer.
In March of 1994 he reported to commissioning crew for PCU MAINE (SSBN 741) homeported in Groton, CT as a member of Auxiliary Division. Upon PCU MAINE commissioning the ship conducted a change of homeport to Kings Bay, GA. where he was promoted to First Class Petty Officer.
December 1999 he reported to Performance Monitoring Team, Kings Bay, GA as a member of Auxiliary Division. Master Chief Craycraft then reported to USS MARYLAND (SSBN 738) (GOLD) Kings Bay, GA as Auxiliary Division leading Petty Officer in January of 2003. Here he was selected as the 2004 Submarine Atlantic Fleet Sailor of the Year and later promoted to Chief Petty Officer.
October 2005 he reported to USS TUCSON (SSN 770) Pearl Harbor, HI as Auxiliary Division Leading Chief Petty Officer. He completed a Western Pacific Deployment and a change of homeport to Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, VA, serving as the Combat Systems Department Senior Enlisted Advisor and was selected to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer.
December 2008 he reported to the staff of Submarine Squadron 8 as Damage Control Assistant.
In March 2011 he reported to the Senior Enlisted Academy and COB/CMC Senior Leadership course in Newport, RI.
In April 2011 he reported to USS NORFOLK (SSN 714) Norfolk, VA as Chief of the Boat where he completed an AFRICOM/CENTCOM Deployment. While there, the ship was awarded the Arliegh Burke trophy and Battle Efficiency “E”. Here he was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer.
In November 2013 he reported to COMSUBLANT Training and Evaluation(TRE) as TRE Team COB where he simultaneously served as the COMSUBLANT Staff Master Chief from June 2014 to March 2015. During this tour he was selected as Command Master Chief.
In November 2015 he reported to Commander Submarine Squadron Six as the Command Master Chief.
Master Chief Craycraft is authorized to wear the following personal awards: Enlisted Submarine Warfare, Submarine Deterrent Patrol Pin (15 Patrols), Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Three Awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Eight awards), Good Conduct Medal (Nine awards), National Defense Service Medal (two Awards), Navy Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Expert Rifle Medal, Expert Pistol Medal and various unit awards.
Master Chief Craycraft graduated Cum Laude from Valdosta State University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Education.
Master Chief Craycraft has been married 24 years to the former Rachel Arthur of Georgetown, KY and resides in Virginia Beach, VA. He has two children Chase and Brianna.
